It had been 7 years since my Chihuahua, Fred, had died and I was finally ready to let another fur baby into my heart. I tried many, many rescues, but finally I found Bebe on June 15, 2020...or she found me, since I had originally inquired after another dog at A Tail to Tell. It was love at first sight for me but she waited a few days before she decided I would do as her new Mom. She decided someone who would play fetch and “keep-away” with her deserved a chance.
I found it hard to believe she had been a stray because she was so well-behaved, although she did have tremendous separation anxiety at first. She made a fuss if I went into the bathroom and closed the door. Now she is much better, but still would rather be in my lap than anywhere else in the world, unless it is outside chasing rabbits or smelling the wonderful scents on her walks.
She is adorable wearing one of her many coats and sweaters. She is patient when I struggle with the zippers or Velcro closures. She has ears that rotate, almost like an old radar dish seeking a signal. She lets me cut her nails and brush her teeth without a fuss. She now lets me sleep in until 7 AM (much better than her 5 AM wake-up licks at first). Most days I easily get in my 10,000 steps on our 5 daily walks. I cannot imagine life without Bebe, especially as she is the only living thing I have hugged since April.
